What’s the deal with hashtags these days?

Yes, hashtags still matter on social media—but their effectiveness depends on the platform and how they're used.

Here's a quick breakdown:

1. Instagram

  • Still important, but less than before. They help with content discovery and categorization, especially in niche communities.

  • However, SEO-based captions (writing for keywords instead of just hashtags) are gaining more traction.

  • Use 3–5 highly relevant hashtags instead of 30 generic ones.

2. LinkedIn

  • Hashtags do matter. They help increase reach and make content searchable.

  • Stick to 1–3 relevant hashtags, including some niche and some broader ones.

3. TikTok

  • Hashtags are crucial for trend participation and discoverability.

  • Use a mix of trending and niche-specific tags (e.g., #fyp + #yourindustry).

4. Facebook

  • Hashtags have very limited value. They're searchable, but rarely used for discovery.

  • Use sparingly, or not at all unless part of a campaign.

SO…

Hashtags are no longer a magic bullet, but are still useful when used strategically and sparingly. Focus more on relevant content, SEO-friendly captions, and engagement.

We will be talking about the new Instagram algorithm change next month, so stay tuned.
